ACQUAVITE
Akvavit (Norwegian. Akevitt; Swedish. Akvavit, dat. Akvavit) is the national Scandinavian alcoholic drink with a strength of 37.5-50%. The name of the drink comes from the Latin expression aqua vitae, which means “water of life”, “living water”. The earliest known mention of the name “aquavit” in written sources (letters: “Aqua vitæ”) was found in a letter from the Danish owner of the castle fortress Bergenhus in the city of Bergen Yeske Bille (Esge Bilde, dr. Scand.) In Nidaros.
